This is going to be a pretty short post, because much of this will be explained in greater detail later.
In short, this website is a documentation of the setting-design process for Celestar, a sci-fi setting indended to be used with GURPS 4e. It’s a personal project rather than a professional one, but I won’t be sacrificing on quality.
WHAT AUDIENCE AM I AIMING FOR?
I’m not really writing with a particular audience in mind – this is more for me. If others take an interest in it, that’s great! It may serve useful to those who are looking to design their own setting, and don’t know where to start. I know I’ve had difficulties before when it comes to this sort of thing. I thought it may be useful to have some sort of online presence, as players can use this site as a reference in-game. Though I don’t expect Celestar have much “reach”, if this project finds interest beyond my own small circles, I’ll try to establish a place for discussions.
I’m no expert, and much of this project will be a learning experience. I’m bound to make mistakes and stupid choices – everyone does. That’s why I’ve decided to document my process extensively – I can go back to various aspects of the project and understand why I took each step. There’s also something nice about being able to look back at my progress.
This isn’t my first time trying to design a setting, or even having some kind of online documentation process. Previous attempts have, admittedly, fizzled out. I’m hoping that won’t be the case this time – I’ll be happy if I’m still adding to this in a few month’s time. I’ll try to post regularly, but long-term predictions will be difficult. Right now, I’m going to be hopeful, and work at it at my own pace.
